Geraniums prefer well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0-7.5). A good soil mix for geraniums is one that is equal parts of peat moss, perlite or vermiculite, and compost or aged manure. This provides good drainage, moisture retention, and nutrients for healthy growth. Avoid heavy clay soils that retain too much moisture and can cause root rot.
